A Guide to Google Certifications

This article was updated on: 07.02.2022

Google offers a range of free qualifications which teach you about digital marketing and how to use their webmaster tools. These courses are split into different modules, with video tutorials and demo accounts to show you through the process. You will take a short quiz at the end of each module, with a final assessment to receive the certification.

These courses are the ideal starting place for anyone working towards a career in digital marketing. Unfortunately, Google doesn’t yet have a hub to keep all of these courses in one place, so we have put together a list of the courses which offer a certification at the end.

What Are The Different Google Certifications?

Google Analytics Academy

The Google Analytics IQ certifications are imperative for a digital marketer to have completed. These courses give you an overview of the Google Analytics platform, teaching you how to effectively track and report on your website traffic. The courses are split into different modules, with videos to run you through the key areas. These are also transcribed below to ensure the course is accessible to all. There are two main courses available:

  • Analytics for Beginners
  • Advanced Analytics

Analytics for Beginners takes you through the basic features of Google Analytics, and teaches you how to create an account, implement tracking code, analyse reports, and set up goal tracking. A guided demo account is used to show you around the Analytics interface, with prompts on how to adjust the data. There are 4 modules, each with an assessment at the end. To complete the course, you must have received a score of over 80% on each assessment.

Advanced Analytics walks you through how to collect and process data into readable reports. You’ll learn advanced analysis techniques such as segmentation, channel reports, custom reports, as well Dynamic Remarketing strategies. Again, there are 4 modules with an 80% pass mark required to complete the course.

These certifications are valid for one year after you complete the assessment. You can add them to your CV, publish it on LinkedIn, and use the knowledge you have gained to further your career.

The Google Ads Search Certification will test you on the basics principles of the Google Ads platform, including how to utilise smart bidding and audience solutions to boost your campaign performance.

Before taking the course, you will first need to set up a Skillshop account. It is then recommended to take the knowledge check assessment, which will refresh your memory on the Google Ads platform and prepare you for the final assessment.

There are also three other Google Ads certifications which you can take. These are:

  • Google Ads Display Certification
  • Google Ads Video Certification
  • Shopping Ads Certification

There are knowledge check assessments before each certification assessment, and a time limit of 75 minutes for the final exams.

Google Digital Garage – Fundamentals of Digital Marketing

The Fundamentals of Digital Marketing course from the Google Digital Garage platform is the perfect way to learn new digital marketing skills and expand upon your existing knowledge. There are 26 modules in total, and you will learn how to build a web presence, plan a digital strategy, improve search campaigns and optimise for local searches.

It may seem daunting with 26 modules, but they are fairly easy to follow with videos and tutorials throughout the course. You can leave and come back to the course whenever you like, and pick up where you left off. There is a final 40 question exam, in which you must score 80% or over.

There are hundreds of courses on the Digital Garage platform, including a machine learning crash course and the basics of Python – if you’re looking to learn a new digital skill, this is the place to start.

There are many other courses that Google offer. We would recommend the following to develop your digital skills:
