In 2020 we signed up to Ecologi as part of our ongoing efforts to make a positive impact on our planet. Ecologi allowed us to offset the carbon emissions from our team’s personal and professional lives, leading us to become a climate positive workforce. Six months on, we are now proud to have planted over 10,000 trees!
To achieve this, we’ve supported several tree-planting initiatives:
- Mangrove planting in Madagascar (8,470 trees)
- Reforesting in Changalane, Mozambique (2,055 trees)
- Planting responsibly in Bosawas, Nicaragua (80 trees)
Our contribution to the planting of Mangrove trees is particularly important as they capture up to four times as much carbon per acre than tropical rainforests and three-quarters of tropical fish rely on their root systems for nurseries and shelter.
Whilst reaching this number is an incredible accomplishment, it’s important to acknowledge that trees take a long time to grow. Therefore, it will be a while before our trees are mature enough to sequester carbon in large quantities. That’s why Ecologi helps businesses like ours to not only fund tree planting initiatives but also support a variety of renewable energy projects that have more immediate effects. Through these shorter-term schemes, we’ve been able to contribute to removing 464.07 tonnes of CO2 from the atmosphere.
Transparency and trust are Ecologi’s core values, meaning we can feel confident and assured that our money is being put to good use. We can keep track of the projects we support each month and our forest is visible to everybody through our own profile. It’s rewarding to see our impact efforts brought to life and we enjoy keeping track of our progress.
