Stories from Impression’s graduates…

Now in its fifth year, our graduate scheme has been hugely successful and our grads are now integral parts of our award-winning team. We asked them about their experiences as a grad at Impression. Here’s what they had to say…

Jonathan, SEO analyst

After just three months of working at Impression, I’ve already worked on a wide range of different accounts in sectors as diverse as fashion and cybersecurity. No two days are ever the same: as well as participating in client calls and meetings, I’ve written lots of optimised content, completed digital PR campaigns for well-known companies, and gained invaluable experience in carrying out conversion rate optimisation analyses.

I joined Impression on the graduate scheme in July 2019, initially working one day a week whilst completing my master’s degree at The University of Nottingham. Since I began working at the company on a full-time basis, my knowledge of SEO and other related areas of digital marketing has developed exponentially. The training program at Impression is comprehensive and complements the work you do on client accounts.

In addition to being a great company to work for, Impression offers a relaxed, friendly working environment with table tennis, table football, and a drinks fridge. There are also regular socials and team lunches to help you integrate into the team – this year’s graduates couldn’t have been made to feel more welcome!

Jonathan Theuring, MSc Marketing, graduated in 2019

Saffron, digital PR analyst

Impression really is the perfect place to work for graduates seeking an exciting challenge. The environment is so supportive and the entire team is very friendly. What I love the most about Impression is how dedicated everyone is to working hard. Never before have I seen such a perfect blend between the learning and social aspects of an office, but Impression really has mastered it.

After completing work experience in the digital marketing sector during my time at university, I knew this was the right area for me. I have been on the graduate scheme since July 2019 as an SEO Analyst, where I have seen the background SEO knowledge I started with rapidly expanding. With a thorough training programme and wealth of opportunities to grow, I have already had the chance to manage projects, interact with clients and really contribute to the team.

For those not from Nottingham or looking to move, Impression also has a variety of socials which make it easy to get to know everyone. Within my first week, I had attended the Impression Summer Festival which gave me an excellent chance to dive into the company. If you are looking for a friendly company with a work hard attitude, Impression is definitely the place for you.

Saffron Shergill, BSc International Business, graduated in 2019

Jamie, PPC analyst

During my time at university, I was lucky enough to get a summer placement in an up-and-coming SEO agency in Derby and since then my passion for digital marketing has grown exponentially. I was lucky enough to stay with the company when I went back to university and worked part-time during my final year.

Following graduation, I decided to take a gamble and leave the job I had loved in search of a new challenge – and this is when I found Impression. Since joining the team at Impression, little over 4 months ago, I’ve been trusted to support on a range of accounts, liaise with clients on a daily basis and represent the company at Derby University. On top of this, I’ve been able to acquire a whole new set of skills such as scripting and coding. However, the best part about my time here at impression has been the work culture – It’s inspiring to work in a place where everyone’s motivated and loves what they do.

So, if you’re after a company which offers flexibility, encourages personal development and has a young start-up vibe, then I can’t recommend Impression enough.

Jamie Irwin, BA Marketing, graduated in 2019

Georgie, SEO executive

Since meeting the co-founder of Impression, Aaron, during my first year at Nottingham Trent University, I knew that the organisation and culture itself was a place I desired to work once graduated.

From my degree and work experience in the digital marketing sector, I knew that I wanted to go down the career path of specialising in search engine optimisation. I’ve been on Impression’s graduate scheme since July 2018, first as an SEO Analyst and now an SEO Executive with more responsibility.

Impression provides a significant amount of structured training in all aspects of SEO, as well as independent training on other beneficial topics. Other members of the wider Impression team are always happy to help with any issues we may come across, which again has helped my technical knowledge develop significantly.

Impression is a young and interesting SME based in the city centre of Nottingham, with an office I continue to boast about. If you’re looking for a graduate scheme that really focuses on your professional growth, Impression is the place to be.

Georgie Kemp, BA Marketing, graduated in 2018

Greg, PPC executive

Impression attracted me initially for the young, startup vibe it had going for it, and it’s location in my favourite city of Nottingham, but I stayed for the enjoyment I’ve had and the growth I’ve seen both professionally and socially since I started here.

Impression offers so much personal training, support and potential to all of its graduates which really help it stand apart from your run-of-the-mill corporate grad schemes. Working on a large variety of tasks and clients keeps every day interesting, whether it’s marketing puppy accessories on Facebook or planning a multi-channel strategy for a property investment client, the breadth of tasks still stuns me a little from time to time.

Impression also embodies the spirit of “work hard, play hard,” with a large variety of activities outside of work, whether it’s ping pong tournaments in the office, friendly 5-a side football matches, nights in at one of Nottingham’s board game cafes or nights out at one of Nottingham’s more boozy establishments. It’s a great place to work with something for everyone.

Greg Holland, BSc Industrial Economics, graduated in 2017

Hugo, SEO executive

In my final year of university I knew what I wanted out of a graduate scheme: regular training to support my personal development, exposure to different roles in the industry and being given responsibility early on. After researching a wide variety of schemes in the digital sector, I realised that a young company like Impression was the perfect choice for me.

Since graduating in 2018, I’ve grown enormously in the SEO team and am now an SEO executive managing projects and liaising with clients independently. Impression continues to support my development, organising weekly training sessions with industry experts and 121 meetings with my line manager to help me plan my career trajectory.

Impression’s graduate scheme has been everything I could have hoped for. I’ve loved working with other ambitious young professionals and being part of such an exciting and fast-growing company.
