Impression is a business that has grown from humble beginnings to being in the fortunate position of having a great team and the skills to be able to help those within our community and across the country via our CSR commitments.

Proud of our Nottingham roots, we strive to support local businesses and local students and graduates from across the East Midlands. We also support local charities and take part in national charity days to fundraise for a range of charities and organisations throughout the UK.

As a young and ambitious team made up of digital experts who double up as skydivers, bakers, DJ’s and footballers, we are always looking for ways to give back. We do this by looking for opportunities and areas that need support and improvement in our local community and also by supporting national charities.

Providing support to other businesses and organisations is an important part of our CSR commitment. We are always looking for new opportunities to help give back to our local community and regularly provide advice, guidance and opinion to help support local businesses and initiatives.

Local business support

As a business which has grown here in Nottingham, we believe that our city offers great opportunities to new and growing businesses, and we welcome any opportunity to support that growth, be it through the events we run, workshops in partnership with local authorities or simply sharing valuable insights via our blog and those of other local groups.

Second Wednesday

Second Wednesday is a monthly event held at Antenna in Hockley where members of creative businesses in the area gather to share advice and experiences. As well as speaking at the event, we also attend ourselves.

These events are perfect for networking and we revel in meeting new business owners from the area and are always happy to collaborate with this great support network in Nottingham.

Growth 100

The University of Nottingham’s Growth 100 programme is open to Nottingham-based businesses and delivered by Nottingham University Business School in conjunction with Nottingham City Council.

Aaron, one of our founders, delivered a training session as part of the programme and has also been featured as a case study on their site, having benefitted himself from Growth 100.

Nottingham Partners (Nottingham Means Business)

Our involvement with Nottingham Partners has allowed us to contribute to the development of this valuable local resource.
As well as designing and developing the website in partnership with RizkMcKay, Aaron sits on the committee and is an active participant in discussions around how the resource will develop into the future. We also sponsor and speak at NP events.

Small Business Saturday

Small Business Saturday is a national initiative that encourages small businesses to shout about their success and encourages customers to use local businesses.

In a similar way to how we are striving to improve graduate retention in Nottingham, we also work with small local businesses to help improve the business growth in Nottingham. Small Business Saturday is a great way to do this, and we have run a number of events as part of the initiative.

Local schools and colleges

Each year we take part in BIMA’s digital day. This is a yearly event which pairs agencies with local schools in their community. We have now completed two Digital Day’s and are already looking forward to Digital Day 2018. Read more about Digital Day 2016 at The Dukeries Academy and Digital Day 2017 at Nottingham Girl’s High School.

We are also working with Nottingham College, Nottingham’s biggest college with over 40,000 students. As an SME in such an exciting, fast-growing industry we are able to expose students to agency life and the world of digital marketing through work experience, classroom talks, and insight afternoons.

If you are a school or college who would like to work with Impression and think that we could support you then please contact Chloe, our CSR manager, directly.

It is incredibly easy for us to put our heads together and hold a range of fundraising events such as bake sale, runs, triathlons and dry-Januarys.

We have taken part in Macmillan’s World’s Biggest Coffee morning, where members of the Impression team baked some delicious goods which we then sold during an open morning here at our office. We raised over £500 from donations from the team, friends of Impression and clients!

Taking part in national charity days and fundraising events is not only a lot of fun but also means that we can raise money for a variety of charities. Individually, members of our team take part in charity events across the UK, and this is something we will be continuing to develop.

Retention is a key part of our CSR plan. Here, we mean anything that helps encourage retention in our local area, including graduate retention of the 80,000 plus students that study here, and retention of the growing businesses that are at the heart of our city’s economic growth.

Graduate retention

There are approximately 80,000 university students alone in Nottingham. We are a local business in the heart of Nottingham. A lot of our team our graduates from universities based in the East Midlands. We are continuing to work with local universities and local businesses to help grow Nottingham as an appealing city for students to stay and work in.

We are keen and open to encourage students and businesses to explore graduate opportunities in Nottingham and often hold insight days, workshops, and, talks at local universities.

This year we are supporting the University of Nottingham’s Digital Marketing Academy which is being run by the careers centre. This is a great opportunity for local businesses to show students why Nottingham should be considered as a place to work and live after graduation and we will continue to work with local businesses to inform students of the opportunities in the city.

We regularly host events in partnership with local universities, including University of Nottingham, Nottingham Trent University and Loughborough University.

Business retention

Another element to our retention aim is the retention of growing businesses in the local area. We support this through the wide range of small business events we run throughout the year, which are often partnerships with local authorities like Nottingham City Council and Invest in Nottingham.

Further to this, we support the movement of new businesses into the local area and work closely with investment authorities to promote Nottingham and the wide East Midlands business community.
