Impression is a business that has grown from humble beginnings to being in the fortunate position of having a rapidly-growing team with the skills to be able to help those within our community and across the country via our varied CSR commitments.
Proud of our Nottingham roots, we strive to support a range of local businesses, students and graduates from across the East Midlands. We also actively support local charities and take part in national charity days to fundraise for a range of charities and organisations throughout the UK.
As a young and ambitious team made up of digital experts who double up as skydivers, bakers, marathon-runners, musicians and general extreme sporting activities we are always looking for ways to give back. We do this by looking for opportunities and areas that need support and improvement in our local Nottinghamshire community, whilst also by supporting national charities.
Providing support to other local businesses and organisations is an integral part of our CSR commitment at Impression. Within our exciting annual CSR strategy, we strive to help give back to our local Nottingham community. We do this by regularly providing expert advice, holding extensive training days and supporting local initiatives.
In 2019 & 2020, we held a mini-conference aimed at charities, schools and all other organisations in Nottinghamshire that may not have access to funds to reach thorough digital marketing training. We gained outstanding feedback and displayed various options to market your brand via digital channels on a low-budget. Due to the demand and response of attendees, we aim to make this an annual event to continue to upskill attendees and invite further business and charities.
We also work with local charities to train and provide support to relevant members of the team, using our digital expertise and training skills. As a business which has grown here in Nottingham, we believe that our city offers great opportunities to new and growing businesses, and we welcome any opportunity to support that growth, be it through the events we run, workshops in partnership with local authorities or simply sharing valuable insights via our blog and those of other local groups.
Local charity pro bono work
We’re proud to have worked with Emmanuel House in 2019, who provide a safe and supportive environment to the most vulnerable citizens to make positive changes in their lives. We worked closely with their Marketing and Fundraising Manager to help understand the basics of organic search, guided them through a successful site migration and set up tracking tools for them.
We have also worked with the Environmental Investigation Agency over the last couple of years, who investigate and campaign against environmental crime and abuse. We worked closely with the team at EIA, assisting the team with the management of their Google Ad Grant, to ensure that they were effectively utilising the grant to support their mission. It has been an honour to work alongside such a great cause.
Annual charity conference
In June 2019, we held our very first charity conference at our HQ in Nottingham. We invited 10 charities and non-for-profits around the Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire area, including; Emmanuel House, Nottingham Women’s Centre, Nottingham Trent University, Loughborough University, Cancer Research, NSPCC and many more. We delivered a wide range of digital marketing training specialised for the non-for-profits sector. From the positive feedback we received, we also carried out this conference in 2020 and plan to each year, helping to upskill local charitable organisations.
Training for Prince’s Trust
We held a training day at Impression HQ in February 2020 for 40+ young people involved in the Prince’s Trust scheme in Nottingham to learn about the basics of digital marketing, and how this can be applied to their small businesses, helping to excel in search on a lower budget. We received excellent feedback:

Nottingham Partners (Nottingham Means Business)
Our involvement with Nottingham Partners has allowed us to contribute to the development of this valuable local resource.
As well as designing and developing the website in partnership with RizkMcKay, Aaron sits on the committee and is an active participant in discussions around how the resource will develop into the future. We also sponsor and speak at NP events.
Impression is regularly involved with BIMA’s digital day. This yearly event pairs agencies with local schools in their community, allowing the Impression team to inspire and support the next generation are the exciting opportunities available within the digital and technology sector. Digital Day 2016 we were partnered at The Dukeries Academy, Digital Day 2017 and Digital Day 2019 at Nottingham Girls’ High School where the girls were awarded a winning places across the whole UK!
We work closely with Nottingham College, Nottingham’s biggest college with over 40,000 students. Our CSR support includes exposing students to agency life and the world of digital marketing through work experience, classroom talks, and insight afternoons. In October 2019, we invited two students to spend a full week immersed in the daily running SEO, Digital PR, PPC and Sales at Impression. We provided them with a mentor who guided them through a range of tasks and introduced them to multiple members of the team.
Impression is also keen to provide CSR support to the younger generation in Nottingham. In January 2020, our CSR team attended Ellis Guilford School to take part in a number of Mock Interviews for Year 11 students. As a business, we understand the importance of supporting schools with nurturing their students and introducing them to the world of work from a young age.
From 2018, we started working with Futures to provide support and deliver workshops to both students and teaching staff at schools in need in the Nottinghamshire area. Our MD, Aaron Dicks, has been working closely with Nottingham Schools to feed more work-based skills into schools and encourage a change in processes for a future generation of workers.

Our CSR team actively strategise diverse fundraising events, such as bake sales, sponsored marathons, triathlons, quiz evenings, poker nights, charity auctions and many more over the years. Since our first bake sale held in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support in 2017, we have now fundraised over £2,500 from bake sales alone for a range of charities including Macmillan Cancer Support, Anthony Nolan, Cancer Research and Mind.
We are always looking for different charities to support and unique fundraising ideas, especially those that connect with our team at Impression. Make sure you check out our events calendar, our blog and social platforms for any upcoming events.
We have also supported Emmanuel House and Muslim Hands through Christmas donations and continue to support local charities in every way we can. We’re proud to hold quarterly food and clothing bank collections and distribute these to charities and food banks in the Nottinghamshire area.
Retention is a key part of our CSR policy at Impression. Here, we mean anything that helps encourage retention in our local area, including graduate retention of the 80,000 plus students that study here, and retention of the growing businesses that are at the heart of our city’s economic growth.
Impression is committed to the 80,000 students who attend university in Nottingham. As a local business in the heart of Nottingham, we understand the importance of retaining talent in the city and incorporate this in our CSR policy.
Many of our previous graduates are hired from universities based in the East Midlands and we continue to work with local universities and businesses to grow Nottingham as an appealing city for students to stay and work in.
Impression regularly holds insight days, workshops and talks at local universities to inspire the next generation of Digital Marketers and encourage students to explore graduate opportunities in Nottingham.
Our Digital Marketing Academy, launched in 2017 with the University of Nottingham, is one of our proudest achievements to be a part of. The academy is a great opportunity for local businesses to show students why Nottingham should be considered as a place to work and live after graduation. We continue to work with local businesses to inform students of the opportunities in the city, growing the academy, and opening one with Nottingham Trent University too.
We regularly host events in partnership with local universities, including the University of Nottingham, Nottingham Trent University, Loughborough University and the University of Derby.
Another significant element of the Impression CSR policy is our commitment to retaining and growing the number of businesses in the local area. We support this through the wide range of small business events we run throughout the year, which are often partnerships with local authorities like Nottingham City Council and Invest in Nottingham.
Further to this, we support the movement of new businesses into the local area and work closely with investment authorities to promote Nottingham and the wide East Midlands business community.
